@fa._thi._ma_: four looks, one soft grey hijab

Some stories need no caption at all. On 25 March 2026, @fa._thi._ma_ shared one story with four photos and three white hearts, and let the outfit speak. Her profile has one line: "Alhamdulillah for everything ♥️". It suits her style perfectly: simple, grateful and calm.

The story

Four photos, one outfit, taken one after another in a car park:

  • full length, one hand at the hijab under her chin;
  • in profile, fixing the hijab at her ear;
  • close up, smiling straight at the camera;
  • full length again, standing in the middle of the car park.

We added it to our Influencer Picks.

The look, piece by piece

  • The hijab: a long, pale grey-blue, worn loose so it falls past the waist at the front and back.
  • The shirt: an oversized black shirt.
  • The jeans: light-wash, wide-leg denim that pools a little at the ankle.
  • The shoes: dark trainers.
  • The setting: a grey underground car park, which makes the soft hijab stand out even more.

It is a modern, relaxed outfit, and the hijab is what turns it from plain to pretty.

Why soft grey works

A pale grey or grey-blue hijab is the quiet alternative to white.

  • It looks clean against black, without the hard contrast of white.
  • It softens denim. Grey-blue and light jeans share the same cool tone.
  • It does not show a long day the way white can.
  • It suits cool and neutral skin tones especially well, and it looks calm on everyone.

The long, loose drape

The key to this look is length. Instead of wrapping the hijab tightly, she leaves most of it hanging, so it moves when she walks.

1. Wear a cap in a matching or nude shade, with all your hair tucked in.
2. Place the hijab with both sides almost the same length.
3. Pin under the chin.
4. Take one side loosely over the opposite shoulder, without wrapping it around the head.
5. Let both ends fall long, front and back. Do not tuck them in.

A 2 m hijab gives you enough length for this, and a fabric with some weight helps the long ends hang straight instead of flying around.

Style it three ways

  • Like the photos: pale grey hijab, oversized black shirt, light wide-leg jeans and trainers.
  • Office: pale grey hijab, a white shirt and a black or charcoal abaya.
  • Evening: pale grey hijab with a navy or wine dress and silver jewellery.

Shades to try

For this look, start with Polo Blue, our soft blue-grey in Malaysian heavy chiffon, or Denim Blue for a little more colour. For a true grey, try Silver Grey or Lavender Grey modal cotton crinkle, which never needs ironing.

Know the fabric: Malaysian heavy chiffon (georgette)

Most of the UAE knows this fabric as Malaysian chiffon or Malaysian heavy chiffon. Because the surface has a soft grain, a lot of people also call it georgette. It is not the light, sheer chiffon used for occasion shaylas. It is heavier, and that weight is the whole point.

  • Look: matte, with a soft grain. No shine in photos.
  • Coverage: opaque, so you do not need an undercap for coverage.
  • Hold: it grips the cap and does not slide back during the day.
  • Size: 2 m long, enough to wrap, pin and still let it fall.
  • Best for: every day, work, university, and as a shayla.

By November 2025 it came in more than 100 shades, and it is still our biggest colour range. You can compare them side by side in the Shade Studio.

Looking after it

Hand wash in cool water, or use a gentle cycle inside a laundry bag. Do not wring it; press the water out with a towel and dry it in the shade, because strong sun fades dark colours over time. Iron on a low setting. The full routine is in our care guide.

Questions

Is grey a good alternative to a white hijab?

Yes. Pale grey and grey-blue look fresh like white, but they are softer against black and do not show a long day as easily.

How do I wear a hijab long and loose without it moving too much?

Pin it securely under the chin over a cap, and choose a fabric with some weight, such as Malaysian heavy chiffon, so the long ends hang straight.

What goes with a grey-blue hijab?

Black, white, denim, navy and soft pastels. It is one of the easiest colours to wear with jeans.
