@vloguedxb: thank you for the lovely hijab
In October 2024 Vlogue DxB (@vloguedxb) wore her Laura Veils hijab in two stories and thanked us for it.

Some of the best moments for a small shop are the quiet ones. No big campaign, no long caption. Just a mirror selfie, a hijab you sent, and one line of thanks. That is how Vlogue DxB (@vloguedxb) wore Laura Veils in October 2024, and we still smile when we see it.
Who she is
Vlogue DxB calls herself an Emirati storyteller. Her page is about culture, identity and people, and her own description of her style is "observing more than saying". More than 140,000 people follow her.
How we know her
Vlogue DxB is a page run by Emirati sisters, and one of them speaks Malayalam beautifully, better than our founder does. That connection is why we sent them some of our hijabs. They were genuinely surprised by the fabric. Moja is not a Gulf fabric: our materials come from Malaysia, Turkey and the other places we have found them over the years, so it was new to them. They loved it, and they are still wearing our hijabs today.
The story
On 26 October 2024 she shared a mirror selfie taken in a lift. Across the top of the photo she wrote:
"Thank you @lauraveils for the lovely Hijab 🥰"
The same day she shared a second look in her hijab. We saved both to our Influencer Picks highlight on Instagram, where they still sit near the start.
The timing matters to us. October 2024 was the month Moja Malaysian heavy chiffon arrived in our shop, and we posted about it eleven times that month alone. We were a small page then, and every share from someone outside our circle felt like a big moment.
The look, piece by piece
It is an easy, everyday outfit, and that is why it works so well.
- The hijab: a soft nude, close to beige with a little warmth in it. Draped loosely, with one side falling long over the chest.
- The jumper: a pink and white striped knit, relaxed and cosy.
- The bag: a patterned shoulder bag in brown and gold.
- The setting: a mirror selfie in a lift. Nothing staged.
A nude hijab with a striped jumper is a smart pairing. The stripes bring the colour and the pattern, so the hijab can stay calm. The nude tone sits close to the skin, which softens the face, and it picks up the warm white in the stripes so the whole outfit feels connected.
Why nude is the colour most people reach for
If you only own three hijabs, one of them should be a nude or a beige. Here is why.
1. It goes with almost everything. Stripes, florals, denim, black, white, pastels. A nude hijab never fights the outfit.
2. It softens the face. A tone close to your skin frames your features without drawing a hard line around them, which is lovely in daylight and in photos.
3. It works from morning to evening. The same hijab looks right on the school run, in the office and at a family dinner.
4. It photographs well. In a mirror selfie, a soft neutral reads clean and calm on a phone screen.
There is no single nude. Some lean pink, some lean golden, some lean grey. Our guide to choosing a hijab colour for your skin tone explains how to find yours.
How to wear a loose everyday drape
This is the relaxed style in the photo: neat around the face, loose at the front.
1. Start with a cap so your hair is fully covered and the hijab has something to grip.
2. Place the hijab on your head with one side a little longer than the other.
3. Pin it under the chin.
4. Take the shorter side around the back of your head and pin it just above the opposite ear.
5. Let the longer side fall softly over the chest. Do not pull it tight; the drape is what makes it look easy.
With Malaysian heavy chiffon, one or two pins are usually enough, because the fabric grips the cap and stays put.
Style it three ways
- Weekend: exactly like the photo. A nude hijab, a striped or soft-colour jumper, jeans and trainers.
- Office: a nude hijab with a white shirt and a camel or black abaya. Calm, polished and easy.
- Evening: a nude hijab with a darker dress in navy, wine or black. The light hijab near the face keeps the look soft.
Know the fabric: Malaysian heavy chiffon (georgette)
Most of the UAE knows this fabric as Malaysian chiffon or Malaysian heavy chiffon. Because the surface has a soft grain, a lot of people also call it georgette. It is not the light, sheer chiffon used for occasion shaylas. It is heavier, and that weight is the whole point.
- Look: matte, with a soft grain. No shine in photos.
- Coverage: opaque, so you do not need an undercap for coverage.
- Hold: it grips the cap and does not slide back during the day.
- Size: 2 m long, enough to wrap, pin and still let it fall.
- Best for: every day, work, university, and as a shayla.
By November 2025 it came in more than 100 shades, and it is still our biggest colour range. You can compare them side by side in the Shade Studio.

Looking after it
Hand wash in cool water, or use a gentle cycle inside a laundry bag. Do not wring it; press the water out with a towel and dry it in the shade, because strong sun fades dark colours over time. Iron on a low setting. The full routine is in our care guide.
Questions
Which nude hijab should I choose?
Hold the hijab near your face in daylight. If your skin has warm, golden tones, a warmer shade such as Almond or Oats usually looks best. If it has pink tones, a softer nude such as Nude 30C or Vanilla is a good place to start.
Do I need an undercap with Malaysian heavy chiffon?
Not for coverage, because the fabric is opaque. Many women still wear a thin cap so the hijab grips and stays in place all day.
Can I wear a nude hijab with a printed outfit?
Yes. A nude hijab is one of the easiest partners for stripes and prints, because it lets the pattern lead and keeps the face calm.
